BirthOrigin* | Hendrik was from Macassar and was perhaps born there circa 1675. He was said to be 22 years old in 1697.2 |
BaptismSlave | On 26 April 1699 Hendrik Constant van Macasser was baptized Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), at the time he was the slave of Simon van der Stel. I have assumed this to be his baptism, because he later marries in the church.3 |
Marriage* | He married Helena van Macassar on 28 May 1708 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.4 |
Family | Helena van Macassar b. c 1665 |

|
Names in the record, in publications, etc. | Hendrik Constant van Macasser was also known as Hendrik van Macassar.2 |
Baptisms - Witness | Hendrik Constant van Macasser and Christina van de Caep witnessed the baptism of Anna Lucretia van de Caep on 8 March 1705 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town).5 He potentially witnessed the baptism of Cornelia van de Caep on 2 October 1707 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), this witness has not been positively identified. Many people from Macassar were Buginese and this individual meets the profile, i.e. a baptised slave owned by Simon van der Stel, and likely Buginese.6 |
Slave Transactions | Hendrik Constant van Macasser may have been the slave sold by Skipper Nicolaas Oole, to Johannes Vosloo on 11 June 1697, for Rds. 60. At a later, unknown date, he was then most likely sold on to Simon van der Stel.7 |
Slaves owned by individuals | On 26 April 1699 Hendrik Constant van Macasser was was a slave owned by Simon van der Stel.8 Before 26 October 1704 Hendrik Constant van Macasser was owned by Simon vander Stel.9 |
