Names in the record, in publications, etc.22 May 1678, the name of Hendrick was written in the record as Hendrick Cornelisen van Out Beijerlandt.
7 November 1683, the name of Hendrick was written in the record as Hendrick Cornelis.
Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)Maria Jansz Visser appears to be enumerated alone in the monsterrol of 1677 under the name Schotze Marij - my thanks to Mansell Upham for pointing out that a process of elimination led him to this conclusion. Ockert Corneliszoon Olivier with whom she was engaged in an extra-marital relationship was enumerated with his brother Hendrick Cornelisz Olivier and his two unnamed children, presumably Cornelis Ockers and Dina Olivier. Her oldest daughter Aeltje Wilhelmse may still have been in the care of Maria Hendricksz Winkelhausen and Pieter Jansz van der Westhuijsen.3
Vrijbriewen and Burgher StatusHendrick Cornelisz Olivier was a burgher on 30 May 1677, in Dutch vryburgher or vrijburgher, initially a status in which a soldier or other employee of the VOC was released from their contractual obligations to the VOC and permitted to farm, become a tradesman, or work for others. Subsequently some individuals, including the Huguenot refugees, were brought to the Cape specifically to farm and were burghers from the time of their arrival. vrijburger alhier.2
Slave TransactionsOn 16 April 1688 Abraham van Malabar was sold by Jan Bitter to Hendrick Cornelis, for Rds. 50.4
On 28 August 1690 Paul van Madagascar was sold from the estate of Leendert Jansz van Gijselen by Fredrick Russouw de Wit and Jan Dircks de Beer to Hendrick Cornelis for Rds. 107.5,6
On 8 December 1692 Anna van Bengale was sold by Cornelis Jansz Simons to Hendrick Cornelis, for Rds. 70.7
On 24 January 1698 Adam van Bengale and Douvre van Bengale were sold by Jan Dircksen de Beer to Hendrick Cornelisz Olivier, for Rds. 210. I have assumed Adam to be the same individual with unknown provence purchased by De Beer on 27 June 1697.8
