Names in the record, in publications, etc.29 July 1687, the name of Caspar was written in the record as Caspar Etlie.5
11 July 1691, the name of Caspar was written in the record as Caspar Etlig.6
Vrijbriewen and Burgher StatusCaspar Etlich became a burgher on 29 July 1687, in Dutch vryburgher or vrijburgher, initially a status in which a soldier or other employee of the VOC was released from their contractual obligations to the VOC and permitted to farm, become a tradesman, or work for others. Subsequently some individuals, including the Huguenot refugees, were brought to the Cape specifically to farm and were burghers from the time of their arrival.2
Slave TransactionsOn 11 July 1691 Rachael van Batavia was sold by Arije Gerts Prinsloo to Caspar Etlich, for Rds. 100. It was arranged that Etlig would pay within two years.7
On 29 December 1693 Rachael van Batavia was sold by Caspar Etlich to Jan Cotse, for Rds. 100.8
