Maria Eali1
F, #8634, b. before 5 September 1694
Father-Candidate* | Burghert Pieterz van Dyk b. c 1664, d. b 8 Jan 1721; This relationship is offered with a view toward further discovery in the record. It is significant that Burgert Pietersz: inventories her mother's estate in 1697; that prior to her assumed marriage to Johannes Richtman (var.) her mother appears to have been the slave of Pietersz:, and that at her marriage Maria is described as Maria Pieterse van Dijk jonge dogter. On the other hand, in Personalia, Hoge describes her mother as the 'niece' of Burgert Pietersz:, I have not yet identified the source of this assertion. But it seems to be chronologically unlikely, as Burgert and his brother Joost only arrived at the Cape in 1686, and Maria's mother Maria Matthijsen (var.) would have most likely been born around 1663 - which would have rendered her eligible for freedom, and marriage to Richman (var.), at age 22 in around 16853,4,5 |
Mother* | Maria Matyssen2 b. c 1663, d. b 29 Nov 1697 |
Names in the record, in publications, etc. | 16 February 1716, the name of Maria was written in the record as Anna Maria Pietersz van Dijk, I believe the Anna crept into her name here as a scribal error.9 17 April 1718, the name of Maria was written in the record as Maria Pieterse.10 |
