Crime and relatedOn 15 June 1705 Jacomina Carteniers and Jacobùs van den Berge viciously assaulted Maria Bartelz. She was struck on the forehead with a pick and when she fell to the ground was trampled by both the assailants on her stomach and chest and also brutally punched by Carteniers.8
Slave BirthsCirca 1665, Maria Bartelz was born in bondage and was owned by Wouter Mostaert de Caep de Goede Hoop, the date is estimated based on her witnessing a baptism in 1684.9
