Birth*Detlef Bibault was born circa 1660 in Mecklenburg, Germany.1

(ConcubineM) Concubine*Diana van Madagascar may have been the concubine of Detlef Bibault from circa 1686 de Caep de Goede Hoop. Diana van Madagascar is a strong candidate as mother to Susanna Biebou, baptised (23 February 1687). Susanna's identified paternity in a baptism record is extraordinary compared to other contemporary baptisms for slave children - including those owned by Cornelis Linnes. A further clue to a possible continuous relationship between Biebow and Diana, would be his subsequent purchase of a slave woman also named Diana van Madagascar. Bibouw married (1688) so that his potential relationship with Diana appears to have remained de facto.2,3
Marriage*He married Willemyntje Ariens de Wit, daughter of Jacob Abrahamse and Heyltje Ariens, on 24 December 1688 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.4

Death*He died before 28 September 1695 de Caep de Goede Hoop.5,6

  20. [S340] Eben De Klerk, "Meer oor Susanna Bibouw", Familia (Meer, Susanna Bibouw) Vol. 29, no. 3 & 4 (1992): This evidence was first reported by Mansell Upham as follows:

Familia, 1/1989, Addenda & Corrigenda, "Bibouw (1986.4 pp 70-72); E. de Klerk, "Die verhaal van Susanna Biebouw" mentions that the name Diana only occurs four times in slave transactions 1658-1687 as set out in A.J. Boeseken: Slaves and Free Black at the Cape 1658-1700. The attention of Susanna Bibouw's descendants, however, is drawn to the following slave transaction which may shed more light on the Diana-mystery:

    '. . . 12.1963, p. 442: Diana from Madagascar (24/25) sold by Christiaen Freser to Didlof Bidouw for Rds.90'
