Jan was from the Coromandel Coast and was perhaps born there in 1671/72. He was said to be 25 or 26 years old in 1697.¹

On 28 September 1697 Jan van der Kust Coromandel was sold by Joan Blesius to Gerrit Hendrik Meyer, for Rds. 70.²
