Susanna was from Bengal and was perhaps born there circa 1677. Van Bengale - or from Bengal - was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal. She was said to be 20 years old in 1697.¹

Slave Transactions

On 6 September 1697 Susanna van Bengale on behalf of Willem ten Rhijnen by Simon van der Stel to Hendricùs Munckerùs, for Rds. 65.²
On 13 November 1697 Susanna van Bengale was sold by Hendricùs Munckerùs to Geertruy Lubberinghs, for Rds. 75.³
