Arrival* Before 1693, Gerrit Hendrik Meyer arrived at (an unknown value.)2
Occupation* On 5 June 1698 Gerrit Hendrik Meyer was barkeep Caabse distrik.3
Names in the record, in publications, etc.12 September 1694, the name of Gerrit was written in the record as Gerrit Meijer.4
18 July 1706, the name of Gerrit was written in the record as Hendrik Meijer.5
Baptisms - WitnessGerrit Meijer is named as a parent in the record of the baptism of Hendrik Meyer on 12 September 1694 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.6
He potentially witnessed the baptism of Alida van den Berg on 18 July 1706 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, Stellenbosch, de Caep de Goede Hoop, this witness has not been positively identified.5,7
He potentially witnessed the baptism of Gerardus Mos on 11 May 1710 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), this witness has not been positively identified. The first name of this witness is crossed out, and written above is T Geert. Correctly always greatly welcome.8
He and Margaretha Hoefnagels witnessed the baptism of Albertus Gildenhuyzen on 7 August 1712 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town).9
Slave TransactionsOn 28 September 1697 Jan van der Kust Coromandel was sold by Joan Blesius to Gerrit Hendrik Meyer, for Rds. 70.10
On 5 June 1698 Anna Groothenning van Bengale was sold by Cornelis Keeleman to Gerrit Hendrik Meyer de Caep de Goede Hoop, for 54 rixdollars.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a strong likelihood the year of this transaction was 1697, and not 1698. Given sailing times of the period, it is unlikely Ke(e)leman could have travelled from the Cape in June 1697 when he skippered the Spiegel and sold two slaves, to Patria and then return to the East and back to the Cape by June 1698.

However, both Böeseken and Shell cite the Transporten & Schepenkenisse as source for the date and it seems strange that both would have exactly the same transcription error. It would require going back to the original TN&S document to be sure.

My thanks to Ceri MacKellar for bringing this anomaly to my attention.11,12
