Dominga was from Bengal and perhaps born there in 1660/61. 'Van Bengale' or from Bengal was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal.¹

Slave Transactions

On 25 September 1686 Domingo van Bengale, Bacacan van Macassar and Dominga van Bengale were sold by Simon van der Stel to Matthias Greeff for Rds. 200.¹
