Manuel Ferreira en Antonia Francisca van Alcantara, Lissabon. Die van Ferreira beteken `smid' of `hoefsmid'. Hy was een van die bemanningslede van die Engelse Oos-Indiese Kompanjieskip Chandos wat van Bengale op pad na Lissabon was en wat deur hewige storms tussen 16 en 17 Junie 1722 op die Tafelbaai se strand gedryf is. Van die 70 bemanningslede het net twee verdrink. Hy het hier gebly en as soldaat in diens van die H.O.I.K. getree. Burger 1737, Rooms Katoliek wat 'n Protestant geword het. Hy werk 1725-1727 as kneg vir Nikolaas Gockelius, 1734/35 vir Anna de Koning (wed Olof Bergh) en 1735/36 vir Jan Pienaar. Later het hy die leenplaas `De Hartebeest Kuyl' oor die Gouritsrivier en in 1748 versoek hy om dit in eiendom te kry. Prof. O.J.O. Ferreira publiseer die artikel `Ignacio Ferreira (1695 -- 1772), Portugese stamvader van 'n Afrikaner familie' in Historia 38(2), November 1993. Volgens Charles A. Hardy `A Register of Ships in the Service of the English East India Company, 1800' - Chandos English East-Indiaman of 440 tons. Wrecked close to the Castle in Table Bay, next to the Amy, on 16th June 1722 during a north-west gale while on a homeward-bound voyage from Bengal. Of her crew of 70, two were drowned. She lies buried beneath reclaimed land.
