Daarin word beweer dat die slavin Susanna Catharina van Ceylon deur Simon van der Stel vrygestel is, “who also gave her a ‘liberale gifte’. (The amount is not stated in the document)”, deel Böeseken ons mee. In die teks van die boek (p. 57) lees ‘n mens ook van die geval: “With her freedom she received a ‘liberale gifte’. How much that was we are not told, but it must have enabled her to find her feet as a Free Black at the Cape”, skryf Böeseken.
