Willem Plooijer was born before 5 January 1716 in de Caep de Goede Hoop.¹

Baptism

Willem Plooijer was baptized on 5 January 1716 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, Stellenbosch, de Caep de Goede Hoop. The baptism was witnessed by Johann Oberholster and Judith du Plessis.² See: Baptism of Willem Plooij

Marriage-Putative*

It is very likely Willem Plooijer and Johanna Petronella Basson were marrried on 30 September 1742 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, Stellenbosch. I am offering this as a putative relationship because Johanna's baptism was witnessed by Sijmon Petrus Berg(h) and his mother Anna de Coning - daughter and grandson of Maaij Ansela van Bengale, the founding mother of the Basson family. She may have been born in the household of Anna de Coning who owned a slave Cupido van Bengale. It was not uncommon for slave born children to later adopt a surname in the family of ownership. My thanks to Mansell Upham for helping me with this theory.³
