Birth*Martinus Bergh was born before 2 November 1698 in de Caep de Goede Hoop.2

BaptismMartinus Bergh was baptized on 2 November 1698 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town). The baptism was witnessed by Catarina Croes and Marten de Jeught. This witness has not been positively identified but Marten de Jeught is(are) potentially the correct individual(s). Martin de Jeug[h]t was the skipper of the Driebergen and had visited the Cape several times including enroute to Batavia from 3 to 24 September 1698. So although he was not physically present at this baptism, it is probable that he had agreed to be the witness. No other individual of this name is recorded as visiting the Cape during this period.3
Marriage*He married Catharina Ley, daughter of Michael Ley and Engela Breda, on 20 August 1719 de Caep de Goede Hoop.4
