BaptismMagdalena van der Caep was baptized on 30 December 1708 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town). The baptism was witnessed by Otto Ernst van Graan and Rachael van der Kust Coromandel.2
Slave BirthsBefore 30 December 1708, Magdalena van der Caep was born in bondage and was owned by Jan Brommert, although the parents of this child were enslaved, she is described in the baptism as vrij-gegeeven or emancipated, likely an indication her parents had purchased her freedom.1
