Hendrick was from Hellevoetsluys and was perhaps born there circa 1640.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 17 October 1660, Hendrick Commertsz: Hoogervelt was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as an arquebusier at the Fort.²
