Harman was from West Beveren and was perhaps born there circa 1640.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 17 October 1660, Harman te Schelhoven was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a sailor at the Fort.²
