Cornelis was from Woerden and was perhaps born there circa 1630.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 13 March 1658, Cornelis Jansz: van Koije was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as an arquebusier, formerly of the ship Het Wapen van Hollant.²
