Jan was from Antwerp and was perhaps born there circa 1630.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 13 March 1658, Jan Cruyck was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a young sailor, formerly of the ship Het Wapen van Hollant.²
