Pieter Paulusz: Cley was born circa 1630 in Delft, was from.¹

Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)

On 15 February 1658 Pieter Paulusz: Cley and Dirk Ariensz: Vreem were enumerated in the muster roll among the freemen, as free carpenters. Enumerated with them was Michiel Bartholomieusz:, described as 'in their service.²'

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 10 October 1657, Pieter Paulusz: Cley was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a carpenter.¹

Crime and related

On 7 December 1658 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was involved in a knife fight with Pieter Paulusz: Cley, who subsequently fled into the interior. Vreem was 'dangerously wounded in the side.³'
