He was also recorded among the Deceased Freemen both in 1658 and 1659. He had been employed by the Amsterdam Chamber.2,3 |

Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls) | On 20 March 1656 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was enumerated in the muster roll, as an adelborst or midshipman.1 On 31 May 1657 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was enumerated in the muster roll, as a carpenter earning f 15 per month.6 On 15 February 1658 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem and Pieter Paulusz: Cley were enumerated in the muster roll among the freemen, as free carpenters. Enumerated with them was Michiel Bartholomieusz:, described as 'in their service.7' |
Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status | On 10 October 1657, Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher.8 |
Crime and related | On 7 December 1658 Dirk Ariensz: Vreem was involved in a knife fight with Pieter Paulusz: Cley, who subsequently fled into the interior. Vreem was 'dangerously wounded in the side.9' |
