BirthOrigin*Joseph was from Batavia and was perhaps born there circa 1690. He was said to be 10 years old in 1700.1 
Slave EmancipationsOn 23 February 1700 Joseph van Batavia was emancipated by Jacob van de Voorde, and placed in the care of Guillaume Heems for ten years, at the end of which the manumission would come into effect.2
