Pan was from Madagascar and was perhaps born there circa 1687. He was said to be 13 years old in 1700.¹

On 13 February 1700 Pan van Madagascar was sold by Abraham van den Boogaard to Willem Adriaan van der Stel, for Rds. 25.²
