Birth*

Dirck van de Kust was born circa 1670, he was said to be 20 years old in 1699.¹

Slave Transactions

On 14 March 1699 Dirck van de Kust was sold by Abigael Duclasel to Willem ten Damme and Helena Gulik, on condition that he be set free on the demise of the purchasers. Also that, if they should leave the Cape, provision be made for his keep and clothing.²

Böeseken, Slaves and Free Blacks at the Cape 1658-1700, p. 188. 14.3.1699: Dirck from the Coast, sold by Abigael Duclasel, the widow of Johannes Sevoyen, to Willem ten Damme and Helena Galix on condition that the slave would be set free on their death. Should they return to the land of their birth, provision was to be made for the slave's keep and clothing.
