Sanbouwe may have been from the Indonesian Archipelago (based on his name) and was perhaps born there circa 1663. He was said to be 33 years old in 1696.¹

On 2 July 1696 Sanbouwe Origin Unknown was sold on behalf off Grysella Mostaart by Elsie Suurwaarden to Hendrik Barent Oldenlandt, for Rds. 100.²
