Jannetje was from the Madagascar and was perhaps born there circa 1695. She was said to be 1 year old in 1696.¹

Slave Transactions

On 9 February 1696 Mary van Madagascar and Jannetje van Madagascar were sold by Richard Glover to Jan Dircks de Beer, for Rds. 80. They were mother and daughter.²
On 11 February 1696 Mary van Madagascar and Jannetje van Madagascar were sold by Jan Dircksen de Beer to Catrina Backers, for Rds. 90.³
On 2 December 1697 Jannetje van Madagascar was sold by Catrina Backers to Christian Elers, for Rds. 30. In this transaction the toddler, said to be 4 years old, but in reality half that age, was separated from her mother, Mary van Madagascar.⁴
