BirthOrigin* | Boulatijn was from Bali and perhaps born there circa 1640.1 |
Slave Transactions | On 20 April 1681 Boulatijn van Balij was sold by Thomas Charlborn to Jacob van de Voorde, for Rds 40. Hattingh (Foute…) says this transaction involved two slaves and that the total purchase price for the two was Rds. 80. However, he may have overlooked the next transaction for Anthonij van der Kust Coromandel who was also sold by Charlborn, but on behalf of a different owner and to a different purchaser. In that instance, Böeseken records the date as 21 April, but Shell [Changing Hands…] records it as 20 April. It is difficult to be certain which of the three historians was correct without personally reviewing the T&S, but hopefully that will come in time.2,3,4 |
