Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls) | 1705 Ignace Maré was enumerated on the opgaafrol (census/tax roll) in (Cape Town), along with two sons and one daughter. The second son has never been identified, but those enumerated would have been Ignatius Maré, Catherine Maré.4 1709 Ignace Maré was enumerated on the opgaafrol (census/tax roll) in Drakenstein, along with his wife Suzanne Janse van Vuuren. Also included were two sons and one daughter, these would have been Ignatius Maré and Johannes Maré, Catherine Maré.5 1712 Ignace Maré was enumerated on the opgaafrol (census/tax roll) in Drakenstein, along with his wife Suzanne Janse van Vuuren. Also included were two sons and two daughters, these would have been Ignatius Maré and Johannes Maré, Catherine Maré and Anna Elisabeth Maré.6 1713 Ignace Maré was enumerated on the monsterrol (muster) in Drakenstein, immediately after his son Ignatius Maré. The latter is for the first time enumerated as an adult. Interestingly, although women were recorded in this muster, Maré senior's wife is not recorded, neither is his daughter, Catharina who by this time would have been married. Her husband is recorded immediately prior to the Marés.7 April 1720 Ignace Maré was enumerated on the opgaafrol (census/tax roll) in Drakenstein, along with his wife Suzanne Janse van Vuuren. Also included were three sons and three daughters, these would have been Ignatius Maré, Johannes Maré and Lùcas Martinùs Maré, Anna Elisabeth Maré and Susanna Maré. It is clear that by this time his oldest daughter Catharina had left the family home - she was enumerated with her husband immediately following her father and his family.8 |
