Property Transactions | In 1712 following the death of Simon van der Stel, Constantia was subdivided into three properties known as Bergvliet, Groot Constantia and Klein Constantia. At the same time Witteboomen reverted to its former, separate state. Bergvliet was sold from the estate of Simon van der Stel, to Pieter Meijer in 1714.1 In 1714 Bergvliet was sold by Pieter Meijer, to Jan Brommert.2 Bergvliet was sold by Jan Brommert, to Elbert Diemer after 1714, subsequently Bergvliet changes hands as follows: 1761: J. Rohland 1764-1678: Johan Nicolaas Schott (married to Catharina van Laar) 1769: P.M. Eksteen 1783: Hendrik Oostwald Eksteen 1812: Hendrik Ooswald Eksteen Jnr. sold to J.P. Eksteen 1841: portion Firgrove sold 1863: W.F. Hertzog 1902: "left to" M. Hiddingh (in fake will); 1904: inherited jointly by Purcell & Jeffcoat 1919: subdivided into Bergvliet homestead plus half farm (Jeffcoat) & Kreupelbosch cottage plus remaining half of land (Purcell) next owner: Sayles 1962: J. Newman.2 In 1793 a portion of Bergvliet is excised and this becomes Nova Constantia.3 In 1841 a portion of Bergvliet is excised and this becomes Firgrove.3 In 1919 Bergvliet is divided into two separate properties. The first includes the Bergvliet homestead plus half the farm and is now owned independently by Jeffcoat. The remaining half includes Kreupelbosch cottage and becomes the property of Purcell.4 |
