BirthOrigin*Aro was from Coylangh and may have been born there in 1661/62. He was said to be 12 years old when sold as a slave in 1674.2
Names in the record, in publications, etc.The name of Aro appeared as Aron van Coylangh in the cited publication(s.)2
4 May 1681, the name of Aro was written in the record as Arent.3
Slave TransactionsOn 19 May 1674 Aro van Coylangh was transferred by Adriaen Andriessen, to Wouter Mostert, on condition that if Andriesen returned to the Cape, Aro would be returned to him. Also that if he did not return, Aro would slave for Mostert until he was 25-years-old (18 plus 7) and then be emancipated. Mostert was enjoined to never sell Aro, however ownership could be transferred to his heirs if he died.1,4
Aro van Coylangh may have been the slave sold by Hester Weijers, to Hendrick Evert Smit on 4 May 1681 de Caep de Goede Hoop, for now, because there is no other candidate that fits the profile, I have assumed this to be the same slave Wouter Mostert acquired from Adriaen Andriesen.3,5

Andersins moet Mostert hom soos ander slawe onderhou.. Hereinafter cited as "Die notariële stukke II."
