NotesIsabella van de Caep Someone asked me on a public forum in April 2016 why I have ascribed the baptism of 16 September 1691 to this individual who should have been 'baptised young then [sic] as required for Company slave children". This individual also asked on what I base the fact that this was the child of Koddo.

The facts are, starting with the last comment:
—with respect to the mother-daughter relationship I have not said they were parent and child. Rather I have stated the following: "candidate relationship, offered with a view toward further discovery in the record"
—with respect to the adult baptism of the adult Isabella: It is clearly stated that the individuals baptised in this group baptism, including " Isabella van de Caep" were baptised after acknowledgement of their faith "op hare voorgaende gegewen belijdenisse". In other words, they were all adults not previously baptised. The group included two more individuals born at the Cape, i.e. van de Caep - a clear indication that the instruction issued in 1685 by visiting Commissioner General H.A. van Reede tot Drakenstein that slave-born children be baptised was not being uniformly applied.

Visitors to the site would be well advised to read everything on a page and not simply cherrypick bits of information here and there.
