(Witness) Arrival On 21 March 1681, Katzilimuda van Macassar arrived at the Cape from Batavia with the return fleet in which Governor General Rijckloff van Goens was returning home. The fleet also brought other members of the Ternaten royal family sent in to political exile at the Cape.8
Slave TransactionsOn 9 April 1669 Catharina van Malabar was sold by Jacob van Borghorst to Rijckloff van Goens, who was enroute from Ceylon to Texel to, apparently expecting to return to the East in due when he would pick her up. However, the purchase price of Rds 80 or f 240 was paid by Luitenant Johannes Coon in an apparent dual transaction in which Coon purchased the pregnant Anna van Bengale from Van Goens, for Rds 70 or f 210 which was to be paid to Borghorst. However, if Anna died in childbirth the price was reduced by half to Rds 35.Van Goens returned to Ceylon in 1675 but Cattrijn remained at the Cape.9,10,11
On 8 December 1678 Condeloen Magen Commaaren, owned by Human Slooboom, was exchanged for Provien Magen Minnalij, a company slave, by Jacob Stevensz, overseer of the company slaves, with the permission of Rijckloff van Goens.12,13
Slave EmancipationsBefore 22 April 1685 Alexander NN was emancipated by Rijckloff van Goens de Caep de Goede Hoop.14
Paul de Kock was emancipated by William Carel Hartsinck at the Cape, apparently with permission to return to Batavia, where he would have to serve Constanteijn Ranst until he decided whether to be a servant or to work as a free man. But a second deed was executed the same day, stipulating that Paul de Kock would first have to serve Rijckloff van Goens for five years following his return to Batavia.15
