Marriage*He married Geertruy Willemse on 28 September 1670 Oude Kerk, Amsterdam.3
 
Ondertrouw On 13 September 1670, Amsterdam, a retroactive ondertrouw agreement, or 'binding intention' to marry, was recorded for Hans Helm and Geertruy Willemse. The record is to be found in the Retroacta van de Burgerlijke Stand, a series of retroacta [Latin] or records of previous or earlier acts. Ondertrouw is an ancient customary requirement in the Netherlands and Belgium to formally register the intention to marry.4,5 
Death*He died before 19 March 1690, when his wife remarried as a widow.6

Arrival* Before 20 March 1668, Hans Helm arrived at the Cape, when he is enumerated in the Monsterrol or Muster Roll. He must have returned to the Netherlands, because in 1670 he is married in Amsterdam, and he and his wife return to the Cape shortly afterward.7,8 
Arrival Before 21 June 1671,Hans Helm and Geertruy Willemse arrived at the Cape, probably from Amsterdam. The date of their arrival has not been established, but it would have been several months after their marriage on 28 Sept 1670.9,4,10 
Names in the record, in publications, etc.20 March 1668, the name of Hans was written in the record as Hans Heinrich Helms.7
17 September 1673, the name of Hans was written in the record as Hans Hellems.
24 November 1675, the name of Hans was written in the record as Hans Helms.
27 October 1678, the name of Hans was written in the record as Hans Wilgelnon.

He is named as a parent in the record of the baptism of Maria Helm on 29 November 1675 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.12
He and Geertruy Willemse witnessed the baptism of Abel Jansz on 20 December 1676 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.13
