Birth*

Cornelia of the Khoe was born circa 1665 in de Caep de Goede Hoop, the date is estimated. Valentyn notes that in 1685 she had been living with Jan Dircksen de Beer for 16 years but that she later moved back with her people.²

Citations

Valentyn does not name this individual in the referance consulted, however she is apparently named as Cornelia in separate publications by G.C. de Wet and H.C. Bredekamp.

Dus heb ik in 't haar 1685. een Hottentottin in 't huis van de Kaapzen Borgermeester, Jan Dirkszoon de Beer, daar it toen t'huis lag, gekent, die zeer fatsoenlyl on zyn Hollands gekleed was, en toen wel 16 jaaren by hem gewoont had; maar deze is naderhand weer na die Hottentots geloopen; hoedanigen men 'er beel aan de Kaap zou konnen aanwysen."
