Birth* | Kouga Jr. First Nation was born circa 1680 in de Caep de Goede Hoop.2 |
Notes | On 15 February 1714 Kouga Jr. was made a captain of the 'Hottentots' by Willem Adriaan van der Stel and was identifed as the son and heir of Kouga Snr. A mere 60 years after the arrival of the first white settlers, the Khoe and San had been shunted off their lands and deprived of their inherent right to choose their own leaders or follow their own succession customs.2 |
