Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls) | 1709 Titus Jacobsz: van Macassar was enumerated on the opgaafrol (census/tax roll) in Cape District, with a wife Johanna van Macassar. Included in the enumeration was a daughter, Johanna van Macassar. Although mother and daughter were not named in the opgaaf, they are identified at the daughter's baptism the following year. This is the first occasion this family appears in the record and it follows that they likely travelled to the Cape as free people. Titus was identified in 1732 as a mardijker.3 |
