Gerrit was from Enschede and was perhaps born there circa 1640.¹

Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)

On 1 March 1661 Gerrit Arentsz: was enumerated in the muster roll, he was recorded as from Enschede, sailor.²

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 1 July 1661, Gerrit Arentsz: was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a sailor at the Fort.³
