Hendrick was from Hamburg and was perhaps born there circa 1640.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

Between 31 December 1660 and 1 January 1661, Hendrick Stelman was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as an arquebusier at the Fort.²
