Matthys was from Copenhagen and was perhaps born there circa 1640.¹

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 27 November 1660, Matthys Hansz: van Huyer was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a sailor on the Oliphant.²
