Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls) | On 5 March 1659 Hendrick Jansz: Schayck was enumerated in the muster roll, he was recorded among the Convicts and chain gang, for another 15 years.2 |
Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status | On 15 August 1658, Hendrick Jansz: Schayck was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as an arquebusier at the Fort. A note in the margin says he was convicted of stealing sheep and sentenced to irons and banishment (on Robben Island?)3 |
