BirthOrigin*Claes was from Leuven, Belgium, and was perhaps born there circa 1630.1 
Vrijbriewen and Burgher StatusOn 26 June 1658, Claes Geraertsz: was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. He was recorded as a sailor on the Prins Willem.2
