Pieter was from Middelburgh and may have been born there circa 1630. His age is estimated.¹

Monsterrollen and Opgaafrollen (Muster and tax rolls)

On 20 March 1656 Pieter Jans was enumerated in the muster roll, as a soldier.¹
On 31 May 1657 Pieter Jans was enumerated in the muster roll, as a soldier earning f 9 per month.²
On 15 February 1658 Pieter Jans was enumerated in the muster roll, he was recorded as Pieter Jansz:, of Middelburch, soldier.³

Vrijbriewen and Burgher Status

On 11 October 1658, Pieter Jans was granted a vrijbrief or letter of freedom which released him from his contractual obligations to the VOC and accorded him the status of vrijburgher or free burgher. he was recorded as a soldier in the Fort.⁴
