Jacob was from the Coromandel Coast and was perhaps born there circa 1684. He was said to be 15 years old in 1699.¹

On 14 January 1699 Jacob van de Kust Coromandel was sold by Jan Pietersz: van Vleugel to Jan Dircks de Beer, for Rds. 50.²
