Sem was from South Sulawesi and was perhaps born there circa 1670. His age was not stipulated in 1695. The Tora(d)ja are an ethnic group from a mountainous region of South Sulawesi.¹

On 16 April 1695 Sem van Toradja was sold by Joost Struijs to Joan Blesius, for Rds. 100.²
