Coridon was from Bengal and was perhaps born there circa 1678. Van Bengale - or from Bengal - was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal. He was said to be 17 years old in 1695.¹

Slave Transactions

On 21 May 1695 Coridon van Bengale was sold by Claes Bronckhorst to Joris van Stralen and Jacob van Doornijk, for Rds. 77½.²
