Fortuijn was from Cochin and was perhaps born there in 1677/78. He was said to be 16 or 17 years old in 1694.¹

On 12 April 1694 Fortuijn van Cochin was sold by Herman Hermanus Smith to Hans Hendrik Smith, for Rds. 75.²
