It is possible that Jacob Caste van Bengale and Jacob Casta van Mallabaer are the same individual.

On 12 March 1677 Jacob was incorrectly named in the record as (an unknown value.)^3,2,4
The name of Jacob appeared as Jacob van Mallabar in the cited publication(s), Hattingh criticises Böeseken for misidentifying this individual, but in Foute he says the name of the slave was Jacob casta Mallabaer and in Notariële Stukke II he says Jacob van Mallebar.^2,3

On 12 March 1677 Jacob Casta van Mallabaer was sold by Jan van Oldenburgh to Dirck Jansz Smient, for f 100.^3,5

Citations

Hattingh criticises Böeseken for misidentifying this individual, but in Foute he says the name of the slave was Jacob casta Mallabaer and in Notariële Stukke II he says Jacob van Mallebar.
