Slave Transactions

Jonathan van Batavia was hired out by Hendrik Span, to Jan Valckenrijck on 14 March 1676, for Rds. 5 per annum. In the event of Span's death, Valckenrijck could use Jonathan for ten years, and then manumit him.^2,3

If Span dies, Valckenrijk might use this slave for 10 years, but was to give him his freedom thereafter.

Hendrik Span op die retoerskip Ternate, verhuur aan Jan Valckenrijck vir Jonathan van Batavia teen 5 Rds per jaar. As Span te sterwe sou kom kon Valckenrijck die slaaf vir tien jaar gebruik waarna hy hom moet vrystel.. Hereinafter cited as "Die notariële stukke II."
