BirthOrigin*Anke was from Coromandel Coast and perhaps born there between 1668 and 1668. There was a number of slaves sold in this period by individuals who arrived at the Cape on the Cronenburg and the Wapen van Alkmaar which had sailed within a couple of days of each other from Masulipatnam. The journey took 2½ months, which does not seem to allow for a stopover to purchase slaves at another location so I am assuming that those slaves sold as "van de Kust" or "from the Coast" were from the coastal region around Masulipatnam, that is, the Coromandel Coast and that they were acquired prior to departure for the purpose of selling them at the Cape. There were othe slaves who arrived on the same vessels, and whose origins were stipulated as "van Malabar" who I believe were likely brought to Masulipatnam sometime before October 1686.1
Slave TransactionsOn 2 January 1687 Anke van de Kust was sold by Balthasar Brundel to Guillaume Heems, for Rds. 40.2
