Anthony was from Bengal and may have been born there circa 1668. Van Bengale - or from Bengal - was a term loosely applied during the period of VOC dominance to enslaved or formerly enslaved people from any of the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal.¹

Slave Transactions

On 11 June 1688 Anthony van Bengale was sold by Dominicus Barentsz to Jan Wessels, for Rds. 70.²
